Celebrate Adopt a Shelter Pet Day with Waived Adoption Fees this Weekend

Today, April 30, the City of Tallahassee is celebrating Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, and there's no better way to mark the occasion than by opening your heart and home to an adoptable pet! Tallahassee Animal Services is waiving adoption fees on Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4, to help clear the kennels and match pets with loving families.

Whether you're searching for a hiking partner, a running buddy or a snuggle-on-the-couch companion, there’s a perfect pet waiting for you. Appointments are available daily at the Animal Service Center (ASC) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with walk-in kennel hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Adoptable pets can also be viewed online anytime at Talgov.com/Animals.

If now isn’t the right time for you to add a furry family member, you can also support pets in need by participating in the Animal Shelter Foundation’s 23rd annual Tails & Trails event on Saturday, May 3. Participation in the 1-mile Fun Run, 5K, 10K or Half Marathon supports ASF’s work to provide supplemental vet care, enrichment, spay/neuter services, adoption incentives and more for pets in the care of Tallahassee Animal Services.

Construction continues on ‘pupgrades’ at the ASC, with each phase bringing the shelter closer to a more welcoming, efficient and enriching environment for animals and visitors alike. Improvements include upgraded dog adoption kennels for safety and comfort, an expanded Veterinary Suite with additional surgical recovery space and a Sunshine Yard for dogs with longer stays.
